Forced insomnia

I’m out of town this week, traveling for work. My new coworker, Stephen, came along to help and to learn about our operations.

Unfortunately, Stephen snores. Loudly. The moment he falls asleep. Actually, it takes about two minutes for him to start snoring. There’s no lead in or anything, just full sawing away.

Last night, I laid awake for a couple hours until I finally turned the TV on at 1:30. I set the sleep timer for two and a half hours and proceeded to watch a rerun of the Iowa-Wisconsin football game. I thought “Surely, this will overcome the noise and I’ll be able to nod off.” When the TV clicked off at 4 AM, I was really bewildered. Granted, my lack of rest and general irritability probably added to my confusion, but I couldn’t figure out how I managed to turn off the TV without touching the remote.

I left the TV off and commenced the tossing segment of my evening. I finally dozed off, but the snoring woke me up before my alarm was set to go off at 6 AM. I lay there awake, throwing pillows at Stephen trying to get him to roll over or something, but no. My alarm chirped and the day was begun.

Earlier today, I asked the front desk if there was another available room, but there wasn’t. I thought my lack of sleep last night would let me zip right off to sleepy land, but the irregularity of the droning just fills my head with unsleepiness.

So, I bought some ear plugs to try. If those don’t work, I’m ordering more pillows from the front desk.
